This is an upgraded version of the Doom source code on which one of the earliest first-person shooter game, Doom, was developed, revolutionizing the gaming world. This game engine was later used to develop Heretic, Hexen, HacX, and Chex, each having its own history of success in the game industry.
Though these games can now be played on most computers using hardware emulators, this game engine is designed to retain the core gameplay and refresh the technology employed by these games while still using modern technology to run the games.
The application features a simple interface and there’s no need to start loading the original game data files, you will be prompted to provide their location during installation.
The application features vector and dynamic lighting for 3D models, sprites and particles, multiplayer server browser, and lens flares, leveraging on OpenGL and Direct3D.
From the in-game multiplayer menu, you can view the detected LAN servers and join or create your own server which can take up to 16 players, with several available game modes such as cooperative, deathmatch and team deathmatch modes.
Doomsday Engine is licensed as freeware for PC or laptop with Windows 32 bit and 64 bit operating system. It is in tools category and is available to all software users as a free download.
