The chat process works on a client/server networking model. IRC clients are social media platforms like WhatsApp as they provide an avenue to communicate with friends and people around the world. But unlike WhatsApp, they don’t support video chat, conference calls or audio. It’s strictly text-based.
This is an IRC client based on the source code of XChat, a popular IRC client.
The first thing to do after launching the application is to create a new connection by specifying its name and selecting the preferred networks. The application enables you to automatically connect to your desired chat rooms without having to go through the large list of available rooms.
The conversation window of the application displays a list of connected users and their status which includes channel operators and regular members. You can also have a private chat with members of the chat room, send DCC chat requests, execute ping and whois commands and transfer files to your interlocutor.
The application allows you to assign actions to keyboard shortcuts, copy URLs, create friend and ignore lists, configure URL handling options and has come with a spell checker that automatically correct your mistakes.
All in all, the application is an alternative way to communicate with other people if you are not a fan of social media like Facebook or WhatsApp.
