HxD

Edit hex values, includes search and replace"
A review by Andrew

If you ever need to inspect, compare or verify disk images, files or even log files, then you need a potent hexadecimal editor. HxD is a free hex editor that really do the task well. You can not only do the things listed above, but also patch various errors in the operating system and even repair disk structures. The program has an easy to understand user interface and allows you to open files by drag and drop; each file is opened in its own separate little tab. Hexadecimal modifications are colored in red and you can, of course, undo any of your actions. Other actions such as copy, paste and cut are also supported by default.

Advanced users will be pleased to learn that HxD has a search function and a replace function. Both of them work with complex filters so you can find and replace exactly the data you want. Users are allowed to choose how many bytes are displayed per row and can change the character set, visible columns and other things. It’s also easy to compare checksums like CRC 16 and CRC32, as well as get in-depth statistics. A powerful feature is the program’s ability to open the main memory of any of your running processes for analysis.

HxD is licensed as freeware for Windows 32 bit and 64 bit operating system without restrictions. It is in code editor category and is available to all software users as a free download.
