This is a numerical computational software and it has a wide range of applications, including statistical analysis, fluid dynamics simulations, simulation of explicit and implicit dynamical systems, numerical optimization and image enhancement. Similar to Octave, the language is compatible with MATLAB and can run MATLAB scripts.
While the application can perform basic mathematical calculations, you can further extend its capabilities by installing various toolboxes that will enable you to perform the aforementioned operations.
The application user interface is divided into three layouts. At the left end is the file browser through which you can import Scilab supported files. In the middle is the console where you can enter scripts and execute them, and at the right is the variable browser, command history and news feed where plotted diagrams are displayed.
Scilab is licensed as freeware for PC or laptop with Windows 32 bit and 64 bit operating system. It is in science category and is available to all software users as a free download.
