There are various types of document preparation system in the computing world. However, many of these applications are more suitable for particular purposes. The TeX standard is perhaps the most suitable document preparation method for the preparation of scientific documentation such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and many more.
This is a TeX previewer and leverages the pdftex and pdflatex which are native to the Mac operating system to create its typeset by default. Therefore, the output is in PDF rather than DVI. This program uses the TeX Live distribution which includes TeX, latex, and other applicable support files used in TeX computing.
The distribution of the application is maintained by the Mace TeXnical Working Group of the TeX Users Group. It is important to take note that the latest version of the application requires the Mavericks, El Capitan, or Yosemite versions of the Mac operating system.
TeXShop for Mac is licensed as freeware for Mac OS operating system. It is in text editors / documents category and is available to all software users as a free download.
