The Unarchiver for Mac

Open and extract from RAR and other archives"
A review by John

Whether to transfer a large number of files over an online or offline connection, encrypt data from third-party or unauthorized access, or compress files to use less storage space, archives are very important. Although Mac has its own default archive utility, there is an application that is specifically designed for macOS and much more powerful than the default utility. This application is capable of open various archives of different formats on Mac.

It has a simplistic design with an intuitive interface. From the Preference window, you can select the archives types that should be opened using the application. You can choose to select all archives types or simply settle the application as your default unarchive utility through Finder’s Open With contextual menu.

You can set the output location for the extracted files, choose between the three available conditions for a new folder to be created for the extracted files, set the modification date for the created folder, and choose to open the extracted folder and/or move the archive to the trash after successful extraction.

The application supports archive formats such as

  • Zip
  • Rar
  • 7-zip
  • GZip
  • Tar

and more.

All in all, if you are looking for a more powerful alternative to the default macOS unarchive utility, this is it.

The Unarchiver for Mac is licensed as freeware for Mac OS operating system. It is in compression category and is available to all software users as a free download.
